Sir Roderick David Stewart was born on January, 10, 1945. He is a British rock singer and songwriter. Born and raised in London, he is of Scottish and English ancestry. Stewart is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He sold over 120 million records worldwide.
With his distinctive raspy singing voice, Stewart became famous in the end of the 1960s with The Jeff Beck Group, and then with the band 'Faces', when he was partner of guitarist Ronnie Wood. After the end of Faces, Ronnie Wood became one of the guitarists of a very famous band that you probably know: The Rolling Stones.
CHILDHOOD AND FAMILY
Rod Stewart was born at home during World War II. He was spoiled as the youngest, and has called his childhood "fantastically happy". His father was Scottish, from Edinburgh, while his mother Elsie was English, born in London.
Rod Stewart married three times, and has seven children. He has been married with the English model and photographer Penny Lancaster-Stewart since 2007, mother of two of his seven heirs.
SAILING
Stewart moved to Los Angeles in 1975, and recorded his most famous song, "Sailing".
The song is a cover of the Sutherland Brothers song, and was a number-one hit in the UK.
The song describes a journey of someone telling his/her partner that he/she is crossing the Atlantic to be with him/her. However, according to the writer of the song, it is not connected to romance or ships; it is about mankind’s odyssey through life on their way to freedom and spirituality.
